Deborah Coen argues for rethinking European heat waves in Washington Post

In a Washington Post article, Deborah Coen, Professor and Chair of the History of Science & Medicine Program at Yale, observed that European nations found themselves at a crossroads with respect to climate change amid devastating heat waves. Her article, “The heat wave could force Europeans to rethink flawed, centuries-old ideas,” reflects on the historical relationship between climate science and colonialism and asks whether recent heat events could prompt a sense of solidarity with those around the world for whom climate change has already made 100-degree-plus temperatures an everyday hazard.
