A powerful and deeply emotional documentary, When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts chronicles the devastation wrought by Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath in New Orleans. Director Spike Lee weaves together first-person accounts, news footage, and expert commentary to expose the political failures and systemic injustices that compounded the natural disaster. This film is a searing indictment of government neglect and a tribute to the resilience of New Orleans’ residents.
Post-screening conversation with Andy Horowitz JE ‘03, PhD ‘14, author of the Bancroft-prize winning book Katrina: A History, 1915-2015, Associate Professor of History at the University of Connecticut and also serving as Connecticut State Historian
