Event description:

Filmed over nearly three years, WASTE LAND follows renowned artist Vik Muniz as he journeys from his home base in Brooklyn to his native Brazil and the world’s largest garbage dump, Jardim Gramacho, located on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro. This documentary showcases Muniz as he uses waste materials, with the assistance of local waste pickers, to make art. This documentary sheds light on the disproportionate impacts of the waste material life cycle and showcases the role the international art scene can play in terms of environmental justice.

Please join F&ES Professor Marian Chertow, currently teaching the Waste & Materials Management course, as she joins in a post-film conversation with F&ES student Brittany Thomas, an artist who worked with waste pickers in Brazil conducting research around public health.
