Mauricio Tenorio, Gustavus F. and Ann M. Swift Distinguished Service Professor of History, the University of Chicago
 
Mauricio Tenorio is the Gustavus F. and Ann M. Swift Distinguished Service Professor of History at the University of Chicago and an affiliated professor at the Centro de Investigación y Docencia Económicas (CIDE) in Mexico City. Mauricio Tenorio received his PhD in history from Stanford University in 1992. Tenorio’s vast body of published work spanning dozens of articles and several acclaimed monographs focus on the social and cultural history of Mexico’s urban planning process, especially that of Mexico City, as well as on the conflict between history, memory, and language. Tenorio’s talk, “On Monuments and History,” will be based on his most recent monograph, La historia en ruinas: El culto a los monumentos y a su destrucción, which grapples with the contemporary discourse surrounding monuments, history, and representation.
