Thursday, October 24, 2024 | 5:00pm
Rosenkranz Hall, Room 005 (115 Prospect Street) NEW LOCATION

The Deitz Family Initiative on Environment and Global Affairs will host a discussion on the book “Children of a Modest Star,” with co-authors Jonathan Blake and Nils Gilman. The book draws on intellectual history, political philosophy, and the holistic findings of Earth system science to argue that it is essential to reimagine our governing institutions in light of the fact that we can only thrive if the multi-species ecosystems we inhabit are also flourishing.

Blake is the associate director of programs at the Berggruen Institute, where he directs research for its Planetary Program. Gilman is the Berggruen Institute’s COO and executive vice president, as well as deputy editor of Noema Magazine.

Jessica Seddon, Jackson Senior Fellow and director of the Deitz Initiative, will moderate the discussion. Alden Young, associate professor of history and global affairs, and Jackson lecturer Jed Sundwall will serve as discussants.

The event is free and open to the public. Registration is required.
