Event time:
Wednesday, October 30, 2024 - 5:00pm
Location:
Burke Auditorium (195 Prospect Street)
Event description:
Please join the Water Resource Science and Management Learning Community, Environmental Policy Analysis Learning Community, and the Yale Environmental Law Association at the Yale School of the Environment for an evening with Jon Devine.
Jon will give a brief presentation about his work leading the Natural Resources Defense Council’s (NRDC) wetlands-related policy advocacy and legal response to the 2023 U.S. Supreme Court Sackett v. EPA decision, the largest judicial roll-back of wetlands and clean water protections in U.S. history. NRDC’s comprehensive approach includes navigating fallout litigation, pursuing additional regulatory and legislative action, and advancing executive branch and state-level substitutes to federal wetlands protections. The presentation will be followed by a conversation and audience Q&A moderated by Professor Rob Klee about federal- and state-level policy advocacy and implementation in the U.S., the importance of safeguarding wetlands and clean water, and opportunities for interested students to get involved.
Jon Devine leads NRDC’s federal water policy team. His work focuses on implementing, defending, and strengthening the core programs under the Clean Water Act. Prior to working on water policy, he worked with NRDC’s Health & Environment program for four years. Previously, he served as an attorney-adviser in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of General Counsel and also worked as an environmental specialist in Maine’s Department of Environmental Protection. Devine graduated from Bowdoin College and received his JD from Georgetown University. He is based in NRDC’s Washington, D.C., office.
