In 2011, Tim DeChristopher was sentenced to two years in federal prison and fined $10,000 for disrupting a land auction where the Bureau of Land Management was selling federal lands to the oil and natural gas industry. Tim went into the auction and posed as a bidder, driving up the price of land and winning more than a dozen parcels, with no intention of paying. It was an act of civil disobedience. As a result of his actions, the auction was overturned and declared illegal, and the lands in Utah are no longer threatened by industry. “Bidder 70” is a documentary about Tim’s action and the repercussions.
