Event description:

Please join EJAY, the Asia SIG, Fresh & Salty, and the Environmental Media & Arts SIG for a conversation around “cities” and justice, global and throughout time.

Through observing a piece from Edward Burtynsky’s Three Gorges Dam series, we hope to provide a forum to brainstorm about how the art relates to our own professional practice, our education, and events we would like see at FES relating to these issues for the academic year.

Edward Burtynsky’s Three Gorges Dam series shows the devastating impacts wrought by industrialization, offering both an implicit and explicit critique of modernity. Burtynsky presents the massive scale of the Three Gorges Dam and the devastation of a homeland demolished by people with their own hands along the Yangtze River in China.
