Western Community & Connections presents:
A conversation with Professors Tisa Wenger & Justin Farrell on their forthcoming books, moderated by Dr. Noah Ramage
Dr. Tisa Wenger, Professor of American Religious History at Yale Divinity School and American Studies
She studies the intersections of race, religion, and empire in U.S. history, with particular attention to the cultural politics of religious freedom and to the problematics of religion for Native Americans as colonized nations. Her book Spirits of Empire: How Settler Colonialism Made American Religion, was supported by a Guggenheim Fellowship and is forthcoming from the University of North Carolina Press.
Dr. Justin Farrell, Professor of Sociology at Yale School of the Environment
He studies how land, climate, and culture shape American institutions - past and present. He writes across political and cultural divides, drawing on both computational and qualitative methods. His new book, Title TBD, is forthcoming from W.W. Norton Press.
Dr. Noah Ramage, Cassius Marcellus Clay Postdoctoral Associate in the Yale Department of History
He specializes in Native American and Indigenous history. His first book project, The Cherokee Republic: Reconstruction to Annexation, 1866-1907 focuses on the political and economic development of the Cherokee Nation and Indian Territory during the closing decades of the 19th century. His dissertation on the same topic was awarded the “Friends of Cal” Dissertation Prize.
