How is it possible to remap spaces and cultures through water? Riviere is a recurring scholarly forum launching this year, designed to explore innovative frameworks for the Humanities. For this inaugural edition, the series will center on environmental ontology, aiming to challenge traditional, land-bound interpretations of Italian culture and to embrace the instability of its aquatic and maritime identity, by examining how water redefines our understanding of ecology, culture, history, and sociality. This edition will include talks on literature, history, architecture, art history, film and media, anthropology, and ecosystem science. (Supported by the Department of Italian Studies, the Film and Media Studies Program, the Schwartzman Center, the Department of Comparative Literature, the European Studies Council, the Whitney Humanities Center, and the Yale Dean’s Fund).
