Event time:
Thursday, May 14, 2026 - 4:15pm
Location:
HQ 134 (320 York Street)
Event description:
Come explore and discuss this exciting new teaching tool! Transition seamlessly between how a New Haven block was mapped in 1911 and how it looks now. Layer an early plan for citywide parks atop flood zone data to see conspicuous overlaps. View a landscape or streetscape in Greater New Haven’s past that you could then visit to observe its changes.
Introductory Remarks from Paul Sabin (History and New Haven Environmental History Project) and Jennifer Marlon (Yale School of the Environment and Yale Center for Geospatial Solutions)
Presentation of the New Haven Digital Atlas by Sam Blair (YSE MSc ‘26 and New Haven Environmental History Project)
We’ll then do a structured exploration of this web-based application’s potential for teaching. This event is open to educators at any level as well as to all interested members of the community. K-12 teachers are especially encouraged to attend.
Please bring your own laptop or tablet if you can.
Light refreshments will be provided. RSVP here. For more info, contact nheh.project@gmail.com.
Co-sponsored by the Yale-New Haven Teachers Institute and the Yale Center for Geospatial Solutions. Made possible by support from Yale Planetary Solutions.
